It is true that even when the cricket in the nation, couldn't have gone any worse,we tend to pour a lot of attention to the game.I really dont think anyone bothered to remember Anand-the great chess player.Or some of our shooters.Bcoz even when there are great performances in other sporting events we tend to focus on cricket(in this case on the team's world cup debacle and Navjot Sing Siddhu's my aunty-isnt my uncle crap.We say that it is really wrong of the media to focus on cricket but I believe that we ourselves are to blame-The media wouldnt focus so much on cricket if there werent people to watch their programmes. So I think we ourselves have to shift our attention to other sports and encourage them

All sporting disciplines, including kabaddi, are played at the national level in India. Cricket is more popular than the others for a variety of reasons. India has won the Cricket World Cup (Prudential Cup) once in 1983 and also a large number of other international tournaments and test and one day series. Cricket is thus the only sport in which India has excelled consistently at the international level. Other sporting disciplines have failed to win the same level of glory and achievement for India from the international arena as cricket has done. It is a general rule that success in a particular sporting discipline creates awareness and interest among sports lovers and also brings in sponsorship support and lots of money. Indian cricket stands at its present position purely on its own merit. There is no monopoly here - official or otherwise. If other sports want to reach the levels attained by cricket, they must work hard to win international success first. Till such a thing happens, cricket will continue to rule in India.

There are many sports in the national level in India. However, since cricket has become as the most popular game, it is
considered as National Game unofficially.
