1997 2.3 Turbo Saab 95 eco Starts from cold, first time. Goes 5 miles then misses twice. Once ignition is turned off it will not start again for at least 20mins. If the weather is warm, it can take up to 45mins. It turns over, fuel is getting through, but there appears to be no spark. Performance and fuel consumption is normal. Dealership recorded info-: "Back Pressure". I had a new catalytic converter fitted but unfortunately there was no change. Has anyone got any ideas?

Its probably your crank position sensor this should show up as a fault code.MickUK

Hi

This sounds like a problem with the crank sensor. The car will run from cold, the sensor and everything else gets nice and hot, then the fun starts. You switch off, the sensor goes open circuit and then refuses to play until it has cooled down.

It could be a coil pack problem but I would go with the crank sensor for now.

I personally would source a good second hand sensor and see if it sorts the problem. It shouldn't cost that much and its gotta be better than keep coughing up at the dealer until its sorted because they will fleece you.

Cheers

Go for Grizz. He seem to know what he's on about.

A lot of the time you see the franchised dealerships give up cause they can't think without their computers.

Had a 9000 Carlsson with the same problem. I went to an approved (not franchised) SAAB mechanic. They sorted it while I went and did a bit of shopping.

Engine Mangement Unit at fault - possibly!!!!!

This is the onboard computer that basically controls everything - not to sure about Saab but my Rover had a similar problem and when it was checked over the EMU was found to be at fault - replaced it and it was fine.

Could indeed be the EMU playing up. I'd be inclined to go to a more intelligent dealer.
