No evidence has ever been shown that proves a gun can fill out an application, have a bank account, own a drivers license, release itself from the gun case, open a box of rounds, load itself, get angry, drive itself somewhere, and operate itself.

I never heard of a gun holding a grudge against anyone. The same can be said for automobiles, bombs, knives, blunt instruments, and even gravity.

The common denominator - and the catalyst - has been and always will be people.

Many failed to intervene when the VT shooter showed signs of instability. Thinking it wasn't their problem, they passed the buck and look what happened. Failure to place the responsibilty on the apathy of people while taking the narrow-minded approach of banning guns or stopping them from being available isn't going to change anything.

Tougher restrictions on purchasing weapons and due diligence from each one of us will go a long way toward preventing such atrocities from occurring.

Most people that want gun control simply want tougher controls on the sale of weapons. That does mean that the sale of some weapons, AK-47 and the like, would be restricted. I am a hunter but I do not see why I would ever need an assault rifle. I believe that I have a right to own a rifle but there has to be some sanity in the process. As it is now there are too many ways to get around the laws and too many people not doing their job of monitoring those that must not have weapons.

I do understand people who favor gun control. It seems logical, sane, rational, reasonable, civilized. Those most blessed, fortunate people have not been assaulted or suffered personal loss by homicide. It seems sensible to get rid of guns and then poof no more violence. The UK does not have guns. Do people get murdered there?

The reason I favor responsible citizens being educated in safe gun use is for protection. They will not be the ones using the guns to commit a crime or kill an innocent.

On July 14, 1966, Speck broke into a South Chicago townhouse and took as hostages nurses Gloria Davy, Patricia Matusek, Nina Schmale, Pamela Wilkening, Suzanne Farris, Mary Ann Jordan, Merlita Gargullo, and Valentina Pasion. Speck held the girls hostage for hours, methodically beating, raping, and stabbing them to death.

It would be very nice if all the predators, murderers, rapists, child molestors and other gun-toting sickos could be locked up...... or maybe even hanged, drawn and quartered for some.

The justice system and law enforcement can only do so much. The ATF can only seize so many weapons from the predators.

Unarmed campus security guards can only provide a "sense" of security. They cannot provide virtual security. The objective of the security guard is to take control of the situation, keep people calm, stop panic and make reports. Armed police and even body guards cannot provide virtual security.

On March 30, 1981, only sixty-nine days into the new administration, Reagan, his press secretary James Brady, and two others were struck by gunfire from a deranged would-be assassin, John Hinckley, Jr.. Missing Reagan’s heart by less than one inch, the bullet instead pierced his left lung, which likely spared his life.

The Virginia Tech massacre was a horrible, horrible tragedy but in time, it will fade from public view. Only those who have suffered a personal loss will be faced with the struggle to overcome their grief and restructure their life. The survivors will suffer the tremendous loss very intently for a period of time and as they struggle to cope with their grief they will resolve it in many different ways but it will never go away, there will be triggers that bring it all back again in vivid detail.

After the reports have been filed, the investigations have been completed and the recommendations made, people will calm down and feel secure, then complacent.

Because of my personal experience, I favor allowing individuals to carry concealed weapons if they have had training and have not had a felony conviction. Most of the people in the self-help group Parents of Murdered Children have strong feelings about this issue as well as Citizens against Homicide. (Members of both national groups have suffered the loss of a loved one to homicide) Compassionate Friends is also a self-help group however it is for parents who have lost a child to any cause homicide, accidental death or disease.

People in these organizations spend a lot of time writing letters to parole boards, and getting legislation passed like Michigan's "truth in sentencing" and sentencing guidelines" (despite the fiscal impact).

In 2002, at the Appalachian School of Law, Peter Odighizuwa, a disgruntled student, shot and killed Dean Anthony Sutin and professor Dale Rubin. At the first sound of gunfire, fellow students Tracy Bridges and Mikael Gross, unbeknownst to each other, ran to their vehicles to fetch their personally owned firearms. The two students were able to subdue and apprehend Odigizuwa.

your right its the person holding the gun that does the killing that's fact but another fact is if the person was holding a stick due to not being able to get their hands on a gun it would not result in mass killings of helpless, innocent people.until this country is able to have proof positive the person standing in front of the counter buying that gun is not some nut case saying all the right things to get his/her hands on the gun then we need to stop the ability for anyone to buy a gun.the loss of a life due to 1 mistake by a gun shop owner being duped is a price that is to high for me.

I'm a retired Police Officer and my son is a Police Officer. Never in all my years as a Police Officer did I ever hear of, know of or had occasion to witness a gun killing anyone.

Control Criminals not Law Abiding Citizens

true. I agree. But if the virginia tech guy had to use an axe or a knife instead of a 9mm, he would have killed about 30 less people. but like you say, we have to focus more on "why he wanted to kill people" in the first place and try to fix that.

but until we figure that out, it would be a good idea to keep guns away from people. obviously we have proven time and time again that we're not mature enough or rsponsible enough to have such easy access to guns.

You mean I can't blame gravity for my injuries if I fall down? Nuts. I always thought gravity should be banned.... But my mom said without gravity, the air would leave the earth and I'd die....

Fun Fact:

It's easier to kill someone with a gun, than with any other weapon.

Both physically and mentally.
