I read this at Time Magazine a few years back, when they were looking at Columbine, Pearl, Heath, etc.
90% of school shooters were called or labeled gay, usually by the ruling class in school.
So:
1. Stop bullying and show that words can hurt others.
2. Eliminate the stigma of gays and lesbians.
3. Eliminate the stigma of seeking mental health.
Guns aren't the answer. Having a prevalence of guns can only exasperate the situation.
I won't claim this will stop school shootings entirely. But, with work and time, they should finally go down.

It's a multi-faceted problem with no quick simplistic answers.
I think there need to be more mental health counsellors available in schools and the stigma of mental health issues removed which will help in people getting diagnosed and ultimately getting help.
Bullying is also a major problem or rankism as it is now being called but that permeates so much of society and getting people to realize that bullying has much larger consequences is going to be difficult. Because there are still people around who say I was bullied in school and I turned out alright what's the problems, kids will be kids. However kids now have access to far more destructive tools where they can bully cell phones, internet , guns etc. Years ago it'd be two kids punching it out now it's knives and guns and heaven knows what else. People need to realize that the old tome sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me IS NOT true, we know words can do as much damage if not more on self esteem than any physical assault can.
I think there should be limits on how much ammunition you can buy in any one place as well as the type and if a certain person is going around buying alot of amo on the net or at gun shows or elsewhere red flags should go up.
Making registering a gun and amo harder is probably a good idea but then the masses of NRA members and hunters and farmers are going to scream they're being penalized because it's illegal guns that cause all the problems not legal ones.
I think politicians have to have the ' balls' to say enough and how many more people do we need killed before we enact responsible gun legislation and the lobbyists be darned, but we know that isn't going to happen either.
But basically it starts at home from the parents and grandparents , aunts and uncles modelling respect for others , dignified treatment of other people and themselves and their children and maybe we'll get some change.

Give people acess to guns and the results are well known. Ban guns & the massacres won't happen. Weapons will still be around for those who can't tolerate the bullying anymore but the only people who will die are the bullies.
I'm ranting...sorry. There seems to be a problem with bullying and how it is handled in the schools. For some reason even though there is supposed to be zero tolerance, it still happens, and usually the person being bullied is the one that gets into trouble because they finally can't take any more and they flip out. Whether it's just a punch in the jaw, a kick in the shins or a bullet - the person being bullied not only is a victim but then becomes the "bad guy" & is often punished by the school system. Parents trying to get support for their bullied children often get ignored even in the elementry school system. I know parents who have had to change schools because of the lack of support.
Also, school shootings don't just happen at schools with great school spirit....they happen everywhere. It's like everytime a young person is killed.....everyone remembers the good things about them & try to ignore the bad....it's human nature.
I hate to say it because it shows my age but ..... the lack of discipline, lack of respect for authority and the lack of defined perimetres (rules) being followed within our school system is to me, the underlying cause of many of these problems.

I don't know that anything specifically needs to be done about it.
There are cops, there is security. All kinds of crime still happens from time to time.
I doubt very much it is a good idea to decide that we must spare no expense, allow no freedom, if there is the possibility of even one such event taking place.
School shootings are still fairly rare, even today. And theyve been going on a long time, as you point out.
Maybe the kiddies could be forced to wear cute uniforms or something, endure some regimenation, some periodic examination for unlawful weaponry or mental illness, sure.
That's just common discipline, though. I'd recommend that regardless of whether there were any shootings going on.
And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some kid gunned a few folks down all the same from time to time in spite of all that. Or maybe even because of it.

If you know history, you know mass murderers don't get that way by being bullied. Some are psychotic, others antisocial but not mentally ill. Any injustice, real or imagined, can be used as an excuse.
Mass shootings seem to happen in places where the shooter can be sure that nobody is armed. That is why they don't happen in high crime areas; you never know who has a gun.
This shooting at least could have been avoided if it were easier to commit a mentally ill person for involuntary treatment; or if gun sellers had access to data about persons with severe mental illness who are not allowed to buy guns.
One whole classroom was spared because the students barricaded the door.
And, if persons with permits were allowed to carry arms, it might have helped.

Let people arm the students if they are mature and not on some add med or something let them carry. Just think if just one or two kids had a gun or a teacher? Maybe 30 people would of lived. Personal i am not impressed with the students the only real hero was the holocaust survivor they should put a statue up of that guy he actually tried to save people.... I don't know about the rest of the kids i am ashamed of them. To many people took bullets in the back.

There is no way to prevent it from happening, there will always be bullies, there will always be social clicks that thrive on subjecting other to ridicule. The only thing we can do is be alert and try and limit the amount of victims. We need to teach people about the harm being caused by bullying and making people social outcasts. Sadly, it will never happen, it is a revolving cycle and it will continue forever. People need to try and be aware watch for warning signs

And because of fact of this you won't have the ability to purchase dynamite over the counter anymore, yet might desire to tutor id and clarify why you're paying for it. Congratulations, you have made great argument for why we want sane gun rules. loopy adult men can nonetheless get weapons, they might't get dynamite on the ironmongery keep anymore. the tub college bloodbath, impossible at the instant. in spite of there being legions of loopy Tea party human beings mad approximately taxes, that's why the tub guy focused a college.

the people that are doing the shootings.have mental problems that are being ignored. if the teachers pay more attention to the students that may be able to recognize the problem before the student gets to the point that he/she wants to do any harm to the other students also their should be more security.
