I was wondering if my stats were good enough to even think about applying to Yale or Harvard. I went to a very competitive undergraduate institution, took a challenging course load and majored in Biology. I have a CGPA of 3.64, but a major GPA of 3.75 and my GPA over my last two years is 3.81. I have two summers of research experience, research experience in South Africa (where I studied abroad) and research through my final semester at school. I haven't taken the GREs yet but I know I have very good recs. I am working as a Research Assistant at a well recognized university this year and looking to got to graduate school next year but I am not sure what schools I should be looking at to apply.

There will most decidedly be someone interested in admitted you to their program. The best approach is to determine the area in which you want to study/research and develop your expertise and professional reputation. From there, look for universities that offer programs in that field with faculty members who conduct research in your specific area of interest (and make sure those faculty are accepting new grad students). Grad school makes us experts in a fairly narrow area, so make sure you love what you are pursuing. You should also make sure that you apply to programs that have the resources (physical and monetary) to support all of your research needs, and try to get into a program that will give you a teaching or research assistantship with tuition waivers and a stipend. Lastly, make sure your program is located in an area of the country that interests you. Grad school can be a very trying time, and the last thing you want is to be living somewhere that doesn't make you happy. Best of luck to you!

I had a similar GPA profile and got into Berkeley -- so I know that you could get into a decent school. But I also had 2250/2400 on my GREs and a letter from one of the most respected men in my field.

When you apply, point out the improvement in grades in cover letter, explaining why these are more indicative of how you will do in graduate school. Make sure you nail the GREs -- and get letters from faculty that know you well.

Good luck.

Then you should ask your professors for their opinion.

My opinion is that you really need something outstanding to distinguish your application from everyone else at Yale or Harvard. There are many other excellent graduate schools in the US.

Cal is right, maximum places set aside a factor of their slots for international scholars. It ability greater helpful investment for the school. Now, that's not actual that they are given preferential scientific care at greater suitable universities. The slots for international scholars replenish very quickly. i might actually say at an better college like a type of places you pronounced, they may be greater stable to get into because of limited international slots. although, at a smaller place like the college I attend, they never fill their international slots thoroughly, so international scholars are given somewhat greater leeway than different scholars. They do pay greater, so which you're maximum suitable approximately that.
