Several Dems refused to support the bill until Pelosi added pork to it for their districts.

Do those Dems only care about our troops if they get paid to care?????

The Dems don't have what it takes to draft a bill on its own merits......they are utterly incapable. The Dems using our Troops as political pawns is outrageous.

Some dems were unsure about the bill because it wasn't aggressive enough. Others were afraid of political fallout.

Please note that these aren't pet projects for home districts that were added - we have a number of items that were left undone when the do nothing Congress of last session abdicated it's responsibility and didn't pass budget legislation before their session ended. We also have items that were desperately necessary for the troops - earmarked specifically for VA benefits and military health care - you know, items that ACTUALLY support the troops.

And, finally, let's remember all the unrelated pork that was included in previous measures, and realize that Bush and the Republicans have no problem whatsoever with the concept of additional add-ons on the "emergency" bill (which is still passing as fast or faster than the earlier ones), they only have a problem when it's not their own.

It's called you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

There are a number of Democrats who's constituency support what is trying to be accomplished in Iraq. If they voted for the Pelosi move without getting something for their district significant they would be out of office in 2008. And Pelosi would be a member of the minority party AGAIN. Frankly I think Nancy will do just about anything to stay speaker of the house until she retires.

If it weren't for pork bills would be a lot different.

Politics is so retarded.
What congress needs to pass is a law that BANS unrelated add-ons to bills. Why should peanut farmers get vetoed over an Iraq strategy. Or solders denied funds because the dems want Bush in a catch 22.

I was against the wars since 9.11.01. And I was saying then it was going to be an excuse for stupid wars. And I was saying it when we went to war.

BUT ACTUALLY now that we are there we need to STAY THE COURSE, we can't pussy out and abandon Iraq to Iran, which is why they fought a war in the 80's. There have been fewer casualties than any other American War.
Clearly the public just can't take war at all.

And yes, politics is all about money, welcome to America.
But public outrage seems to put it in check every once in a while.

You sound like a person who thinks that republicans don't do that? ALL politicans do it. Is it a bribe, if you can stick some pork in a piece of legislation for your home district? If so, the Republicans have been doing it for years and years.
Before you open your mouth or start to point your fingers at any group, make sure that your group doesn't do the exact same thing.

I believe that this buying votes with Pork is illegal and it has to stop or some legal action must be taken to have it stopped. That is our money, not pelosis, and to use it in this manner is criminal.

You say this but refuse to acknowledge that Bush's guaranteed veto says he does not care about the troops. That all he cares about is a blank check for spending and NO withdrawal from Iraq (even though he says we won...).

I guess that would be sort of like when Democrats attempted to raise the minimum wage but Republicans would have no part of it unless their pet project was tacked onto the bill.....you remember what it was?

Medicare Drug Bill: Republican leader kept voting open HOURS to make deals that would get him enough votes to pass. See, when it's something you favor it is compromise and the way the legislative process works; when it's something you oppose it's bribery.

Go find a real issue to argue.

That's the only way you can get some of these Defeatocrats to vote for anything. They should be called the "What's In It For Me" Party.
