Karyotyping is arranging pictures of set of chromosomes in homologous pairs in order from largest to smallest. The sex chromosomes are placed last.

In order to do this you can take a picture of late prophase chromosomes, make the picture big enough to handle the cut pieces, cut out each chromosome and match it with its homologous partner, and line all of them up in size order.

karyotyping is looking at the chromosomes of an individual under the microscope and photographing them. This is normally done to look for any translocations or extra chromosomes or missing chromosomes.
