Probably the only true High King of Ireland ... had a fortress overlooking the Shannon near Lough Derg, was killed by Vikings in 1014 in an area known as Cluain Tarbh or Valley of the Bull, now the part of Dublin city known as Clontarf, even though he drove the worst of them out of the country and allowed the more benign ones to stay as they regarded the place as their home.

Brother to local king or chieftain whose name was Cinneide, this was later turned a surname O' Cinneide (as Brian's name became O'Brien) and anglicised into Kennedy.
