youre right, in kinder years gay meant happy joyous etc alas with the advent of homophobia it has become quite a hostile word. often used to represent stupidity and various other negative connotations. An example would be 'that shirt looks gay' meaning it looks stupid on you, sigh, language is ever changing.

i know i've got mastered the skill to stroll, talk and consider. there is not something plenty left to earnings in those fields, and that i'm able to do all of it with finished ease. would not propose I in no way stub my toe, slur some words, or detect a sentence now and then, yet i've got reached a ingredient the place that is thoroughly causal. i'm not an olympic sprinter, or a public speaker, or a velocity reader -- those are all completely separate skills -- yet what I discovered is a lot to get by way of life. I in no way forget that the martial arts are called an paintings, no rely if or not it incredibly is an jap interpretation, yet interior the West this does have a purpose. An paintings could not be some thing you proper. track, portray and sculpting all have close to endless skill, yet levels of progression which you will would desire to "grasp" to get extra suitable. A black belt, as we've defined formerly on right here, is approximately having an business enterprise expertise of the basics, or "All trouble-free strikes and strategies, could be utilized with prolonged tension and proper utility in trouble-free mixture." the biggest words right here would be "all trouble-free strikes and strategies" and "prolonged tension and proper utility". i'd say there's a mastery of having discovered the standards and know the thank you to place them to apply, merely not something extra desirable from the basics. i think of human beings bypass a splash too a procedures with the be conscious, utilising it generally erroneously, however the reason of very actually and casually utilising what you have discovered is what they are all implying. As for the martial arts as an entire, that i've got self assurance is impossible, exceedingly as an paintings.

I have nothing against homosexuality in itself, but I dislike the way the word Gay has for most people changed it's meaning.
I imagine it started when an open homosexual said he was gay about it, and because people couldn't accept that homosexuals could be gay in the traditional way, the word became a replacement word for homosexuals, and just as the term homo was used as an insult, the word Gay, is now used as an insult.
Gay was only affective, as a term for homosexuals, when the original meaning was known, the homosexual meaning has diminished the original meaning.
I imagine terms like ' what a gay day' played their part as well.
We have to accept it, language moves on, but I still only use the gay word in its original meaning, it causes much confusion.

I still prefer the happy joyous meaning of the word gay.How the word came to be associated with homosexuality I don't know. It's a pity as gay is a word that conjures up happy thoughts when used in it's conventional sense.I prefer the use of queers or bent as terms to describe homos.

Homosexuals stole the word "gay", the rest of us have stolen it back. After it's recent misuse over the last two or three decades "happy and joyous" wouldn't work any more it would just sound gay.

I agree, at one time the word originally meant something that was happy and joyous, as it should be. And the word was perverted, just as that type of relationship is perverted. It's a very sad thing.

I think this QUESTION is gay.
nooo... just kidding.
yeah, kinda weird, its used in the theme song
for "The Flintstones" and meant "HAPPY" there.
although, I dont know for sure what went on at
the lodge while my tv was off.
as for my first statement, I have to retract it,
Im not sure how this question feels about
other questions, and was unfair of me to judge.
also, I dont find this topic very "happy" either.
Im sure using words to discribe others in a minority
would meet with lots more negitive responce.
for instance:
sounds like a question a xxxxxxx would answer.....
dont ask xxxxxxx questions, you sound like a xxxxx
etc etc etc....
I cant get offended though,
anyone using the english language this way,
MUST be illiterate anyway.
Getting mad at stupid, makes you look stupid too.

I use it to describe things that I just don't appeal to me, like " that movie was geigh." I don't mean any offense by it, and seeing as how what few friends I do have that are gay, they say it also and laugh about it all the time.
If I had a better word to use I would.

free speach! come on! let others adjust their boundaries. words shouldn't be taboo per se!
it's no different to 'wicked' being good! (although a little outmoded now!)
I prefer to say that "it's as gay as a window"
I find it more annoying that I am restricted from writing **** (see!!! begins with c, ends in t!!!) on here if i want to! why is the female genitalia a bad thing! it is the source of procreation - how is that offensive or insulting?!!

Hilarious. My kids use it all the time-e.g. if something doesn't work- it is gay. If they have a test in school- that is gay. All their teachers are, of course, gay. My son thinks peas are gay. My daughter thinks flat shoes are gay. So, if I was offended by it, I would be in a perminant state of indignation!!
