Hi marky j,

Schools always set up firewalls and proxy servers to stop pupils accessing games, chat, rude sites ;o)... etc.

There is a good reason for them, so anything non-academic cannot be seen, and therefore the school can't get in trouble if you are looking at something illegal!

There are not any ways past these programs, and I do not recommend that you try, as you will get in a lot of trouble. If you are seen to be trying to hack past the firewall, or viewing something that is banned, then they will want to know how you did it, why you did it, and probably assume that you are doing it because you want to look at something very bad that your parents won't let you look at at home! So the safest thing to do is just use the school computers to do your work, as most schools log everything that you look at. If you look at it and you're not supposed to then they will know about it and they will be able to pull up your records and prove it.

It's reasonable for the College to limit what you are allowed to do on their PC's.

They are well aware of possible legal issues should some-one 'accidentally' download & view illegal meterial (eg. racist, sexist etc) and for this reason may well log everything you are doing ...

Getting expelled for hacking the firewall is not the best way to start the rest of your (un)employed life

It is possible that they have a wireless 'hotspot' (eg in the canteen) where you can link to 'myspace' etc. using your own Laptop computer during lunch breaks. Check with your tutor.

The easiest way around this issue with Superscout firewall is either become a member of the IT department and get yourself issues with access passwords etc.

Or use a computer that doesn't have it like a net cafe or your home computer or your friends.
