I don't know about the VT killer but the man who massacred 35 people in Tasmania, Australia in 1996, tried to kill himself afterwards but was caught before he could. He is now in prison for life, never to be released. The thing is, he is in constant solitary confinement because of the danger he faces from the other prisoners. Apparently and believe it or not, he actually gets lots of letters from women interested in him (so sad). I speculate that if the VT killer was caught he would also have many lady admirers. He doesn't reply to any of them and insists on no visitors. He has tried to kill himself numerous times and has failed. Now imagine what it would have been like for the VT killer if he survived. I imagine very simular to the life of Martin Bryant.

My first response would be throw him in jail and put him on death row. Then again, he was a sick individual who needed psychological help desperately. I think what really gets me is his manifesto and the way he had everything precisely planned out, which means it was premeditated and therefor he knew what he was doing on some level. I'd still have to say throw him in jail and throw away the key or the death penalty would be the only fair thing to the victims and their families.

If he was in police custody, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do anything. They'd be hauling him off to interrogate him.
After seeing stories about profilers and how they've studied serial killers, I think it would have been better if he survived. Police and psychiatrists have learned a lot from these men.
