This doesn't necessairly mean it is your starter that is bad, its a possibility, but not definately. My borther's girlfriend had this same problem, drove it just fine, then when they came back to start it, just did't wanna start. I told them it wasn't the starter (And it would help to know what kind of vehicle you have), but they didn't listen to me, and a moron friend of theirs said "Oh, the starter and the Solenoid are bad" and my brother listened to him, and went and bought a new starter and new solenoid, and guess what, that wasn't the problem. It was the timing belt.
When trying to start your vehicle, you require 2 thing for the engine to run:
1) Fuel to the cylinders
2) Spark
3) Compression
Assuming its not your timing belt, it really depends, does your starter sound slow? or does it sound like its not turning quite as fast as it should? If that is OK, do you have spark? Pull off one of the sparkplug wires from a spark plug, set it near to a ground on the vehicle with just a small gap between the end of the rubber boot and the metal part, take your hand off of it, and have a friend turn the vehicle over for a second. If you see sparks fly between the rubber boot and the metal part of the vehicle, then you have spark. After this, check your fuel delivery system, filter, pump, injectors, all the parts.
If you feel you don't know how to do this or you can't do this, then this is all the info I can find in your area.

so when you turn the ignition switch, does it just click once, or does it click continuously..If once..bad starter..If other..battery voltage lower than 10, or bad connection...just remember the battery cranks the vehicle and the alternator keeps it running..alternator will supply vehicle amps while running and recharges the battery, but if battery won't hold a charge, then you either have bad connection or battery is shot...if you just hear one click..get someone to hold the ignition switch over and you give the starter a few licks with a hammer...if the bendix doesn't engage...you need a starter.

Since you have bright lights when it's running, it's not the alternator. When you had the battery tested, did they put a voltage meter or a load tester to it. A bad battery will still have 12 volts, while still not having enough amps to start the vehicle.

Sounds like a battery problem.

When you say it won't kick over I am assuming that the engine will turn over but won't fire. I am guessing it is either the coil, spark plugs or spark plug leads.
