I don't tell my partner everything because some things I like to keep very personal. I've never cheated or anything like that and I'm not dishonest with him but some things are best kept to oneself. Anyone else agree?

By hiding a few things I mean... how you spent on shoes, or clothes just minor things. I work full-time and it's my money, my business. I'll tell my man that I bought something new and show him but I won't always be completely honest about the price! It's personal to me.

It is actually very important to keep secrets from your spouse or others who are viewed as "untrustworthy."

One thing clinical psychologists find is that you can really only trust yourself with secrets and special information. If you tell someone else - especially those you live with or with whom you have made children - they can use your words against you.

That is why secrets are so important. In fact, usually only smart people have secrets anyway. That is why we keep them. If the less intelligent folks out there knew what we know, they could be as enlightened as we are, but you know what Superman said about Lex Luthor - "I can't let that technology fall into the wrong hands!"

Imagine telling your spouse that you had cancer or lost three paychecks during a gambling binge. What would he do? Obviously he would be concerned because he doesn't understand the importance of keeping secrets.

When we keep the secrets from those who expect daily communication from us, we find that nothing really is anybody else's business - including our paychecks, bank accounts, and what types of diseases we pick up from sexual encounters.

Clearly put, nothing is your spouse's business. As a general rule, keep EVERYTHING a secret. Leave them guessing. If they complain about not knowing the details, they should not have pried in the first place.

I agree. I don't think full disclosure is even healthy. I have done things in my past that are mine, and mine alone, to know about. I don't care how much I love someone, I'd never tell them. They will go with me to my grave.

I wouldn't be dishonest. I wouldn't lie. If someone ever asked me directly, I'd say it's something I consider private. (*shrug*)

My friends wife asked him if he likes her brother's new girlfriend. If he say know...how can you not like her. If yes...oh ok, so now I'm not good enough any more....What the ....
I think it depends on your partner. Some people are very open minded and you can share any thing with them, others oh my, just keep quite and enjoy their good aspects

I tell my husband most things except how much I paid for clothing/shoes as he just doesn't understand prices of women's stuff - I pay for them myself anyway with my salary but still!
