With the way you framed your question, "...analysing your computer", most certainly you do NOT need an internet connection for the analysis part.
However, norton antivirus is designed to periodically update its virus scanning patterns, & program engines , thus you need an internet connection for this to work.
However, if you play around in the settings or scheduling options in the program, you can change the days and times this updates are performed, (I think it is called LiveUpdate) and once this is performed, the computer analysis can pretty much be performed offline.
However, why do you use Norton antivirus, such a system hog, if it is possible for you, try out Nod32 antivirus, http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.eset.com/download/index.php&sa=X&oi=smap&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFrqEzdSo86EIiIHIPV2fXx_MWNju8AcHw
Much reliable, and less dependence on your system resources.
Hope this helps

if your subscription runs out, you will now not have Norton antivirus risk-free practices. you ought to the two renew it or get some thing else. And in case you get some thing else, you're able to desire to get the Norton eliminating gadget and eliminate Norton. it incredibly is incredibly confusing to uninstall, so which you'll want the specific eliminating gadget. i don't know what Symantec Cooperation version 10 is, yet once you're relating Symantec company version 10, it has an excellent project. Attackers would desire to launch malicious code to learn equipment-point privileges by utilising exploiting a flaw in Symantec AntiVirus company version 10, Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based eEye digital risk-free practices Inc. has warned in an advisory. I see actually no would desire to pay the two Symantec or Norton for his or her vast, outsized, cumbersome and reminiscence-hogging classes, while 2 of the proper antivirus classes obtainable at present are unfastened. Avast 4-homestead (i've got used it 5+ years), and AVG 7.5.

You don't need the internet to use any Antivirus Software.
What you need the internet for is updating the virus definitions to make them the most current.
That makes doing the analysing more successful but not actually necessary
On that point I believe as will many agree with me that getting updated virus definitions is the best way but not the only one.

no you don't need to have an internet connection, only when you have to update your files. As a matter of fact if you suspect that your computer has a virus it's recommended to run your computer in safe mode and disconnect your internet connection when analysing, for viruses are very adaptable and can actually access the internet to prevent being deleted.
