The local Newport Beach ordinance prohibits these kinds of noises only before 7 on weekdays, but since I like to sleep late, is there any way I can sue my neighbor for disturbing my sleep? Like this being detrimental to my health perhaps?

Yes, go for it! Get them for disturbing the peace, also all the dust these machines raise can be bad for peoples allergies and the environment. It's not just one leaf blower in the fall that is the problem, it's several of them making that noise up and down your street.

My next door neighbor has one that makes a high pitch sound that drives me nuts! Who ever invented those things anyway! I can rake my yard faster than my neighbor does his with his digesting leaf blower.

No....it is reasonable for the leaf blower to run at 11am. Well I am wrong...ofcourse you can sue...but you will lose you have no case.

the best you can do is go to your neighbor and ask if they can start the machines later in the day and that all depends on when you sleep to. If you sleep until 2 or 3 in the afternoon then that is unreasonable.

Now if you sleep late because you work at night then hopefully the neighbor will acconodate...but if you just sleep late for no reason or stay up at night partying then thats on you....try to vary your sleep habits...I doubt they run the leaf blower every day.

No, there's not. Sorry. Your neighbor is within his/her rights to assume that people are awake and moving by 11 am. You can try talking to him/her and explain that you like to sleep in, but I don't think it will do any good. He also can't use the machine on Sunday, if I'm not mistaken, so he only has a limited time to accomplish his lawn care. He might be able to rearrange his gardener's schedule, but...

Are you kidding? This is the USA, for crying out loud. You can sue anybody, anything, for absolutely any or no reason at all. Lawyers have no scruples and have sold their souls to Satan. Judges have no brains and can be convinced of anything (does Judge Ito ring a bell?). If you got the money, honey; lawyers will always have the time.

Probably not. 11 AM is late morning/early afternoon, the middle of the day. If he can't do it then, when can he?

Invest in some good earplugs instead. Good luck.
