Captain of the greatest sports franchise in the world. He seems like a good guy. He's a great player and a future hall of famer. I think it's unfair that people despise him because of all these things. He's just a guy who happens to be in the public eye which makes him a target to his distractors. That's too bad but I guess it comes with the territory.
If I was going to make anyone the face of MLB Derek Jeter would be as good a choice as any. No scandal, or drugs or steroids.......why not!

People are pointing out that Jeter is not the best player in the Majors but that does not change the fact that Jeter IS the face of MLB. He embodies all that makes baseball great. He is a team player, honest, hardworking. He is a fantastic leader on the field. He has won the World Series 4 times, and baseball is all about winning championships. In clutch situations, he always comes up with the big hit. He is also a fine defensive shortshop.
Everybody looks at players stat lines, but baseball is more than numbers. It is a game, first and foremost. Just because you hit more homers than anyone does not make you the face of the sport.

Derek Jeter is a nice guy and a good player but he hasn't been so important to baseball that I would call him the "face of baseball". It would either go to Alex Rodriguez or Barry Bonds. Right now, A-Rod is on a hitting streak but who knows how long that will last. Nonetheless he joins the list of current great MLB players. Barry Bonds obviously for the steriods scandal that has now plagued MLB. Once he passes HA's record we won't hear the end of it.

I wasn't going to answer this but someone called Jeter "overrated". Please! Came in second for MVP last year, won the gold glove for American League shortstop, won the Silver Slugger Award for shortstop, has 4 World Series rings. He performs year after year on the biggest stage in baseball when other superstars just fall apart. He makes less than three other players on the Yankees. You never read a negative thing about him in the media even though he lives in New York. What else does he have to do? Overrated, I don't think so! You would love to have him on your team and you know it! He is the face of baseball! Let Pujols, Arod, Bonds and Reyes meet his standards. Reyes maybe in a few years, not yet.

No its either Pujols or A-Rod. But the unintentional face of MLB today is Barry Bonds. I like Barry and i hope he passes Hank this season too. But everyone else doesnt like dude for some reason( lets not get into this discussion).

Jeter is the face of baseball to the uneducated, casual baseball fan. He's so overrated it's silly. He hits for average, he's a good leader, and he's a SOLID defensive shortstop, although he's overrated mostly in this category, because he makes plays LOOK good, whether they're tough or not. I respect him, but the FACE? nah...

I guess you're question is spoken as a Yankee fan. Pujols, Mauer, Morneau, Santana, Zito, Cabrera, Cano, Rodriguez and a lot more players can be argued as the face of baseball but it's pretty good company to be in.

no most definitely not. only because hes on the yankees and with so many fans rooting against the yankees its hard to see him as the figurehead. really i would say the face of mlb lies in the new guys...i see dave wright on the mets as one example. soon enough bonds is gonna be, once he breaks 755. theres no one person that can be modeled as the "face" of the mlb
