Why did Military train Osama Bin Laden in the School of Americus?

The largest training base in the Military is FT.Benning and guess what? Thats right ....The Shcool of Americus os loacted there training foriegners and Osama Bin Ladren was one of them along time ago.

Very good answers, but keep in mind it was not what I may have predicted...it's the simple fact that the School should shut down.

Not really. Osama fought against Soviet communists so it make perfect sense CIA aided fighters like Osama to fight against our old enemy, communists. But we live in different world now.

The US also once invited Iranian scientists so we can train them on nuclear technology, so they can have nuclear power and have more oil left over for oversea sales. I think this occured in 70s.

And it is US army that helped to modernize the Japanese military that eventually blew up Pearl Harbor.

During the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan the USA trained locals to fight against the Soviets. The USA also gave them weapons. The USA trained Osama Bin Laden as part of this training program.

How can any thinking person blame America or anyone else for the actions of these individuals.
This type of talk is a cop out.
America did not reach into Bin Ladens mind and activate terrorist thoughts leading to terrorist actions!

Not surprised at all. Osama was our ally, during the cold war.

Killed a lot of Russians for us.

The whole 9/11 incident centered around certain agreements we made with him. Whether we didn't uphold our end or if didn't do everything he said, completely depends on who you talk to.

No getting around the fact that we trained & armed many Afghani combatants to fight for us.
