Did the hair bands of the 80's kill the southern rock and roll of the 70's like Skynrd and The Marshall Tucker Band??

Southern rock and hair metal just took rock to new levels. It hasn't died yet. Take a look at todays bands influenced by both sides. For instance, Jet. I can't listen to one song of theirs without thinking of an older band anywhere from the 80's to the 50's. If anyone killed the southern rock, it was country music. Either way, video killed the radio star.

I'm gettin close enough to 40 and I hate 'come sail away' and everything Styx did except Renegade. Rock n roll never dies, but unfortunately for you, I guess, neither do any of the other genres including Rap...of which some I do happen to like. All music goes through different phases depending on the generation...sit tight, maybe something will come along soon that you'll like. And by the way, if my generation would've killed rock n roll, Nirvana never would have made it. I am an old 80s freak, but I was more than refreshed when Nirvana came along and paved a whole new path for rock and alternative music.

The 80's didn't kill rock and roll. That's just when there was nothing left to sing about and new styles were required to keep the market entertained.
The end of the Vietnam and Cold wars killed rock and roll. With no great causes for dissent over events that affected the whole globe left, the spirit of rebellion quietened down and people just got on with their mediocre lives. Enslaved by the capitalistic nature of our consumable culture. Now get back to work and pay off your toys.....

Lynard Skynard was great!

No, pretty much those disco and rap tried to kill it, but it surmounted and destroyed disco and let rap killed it self out. Rock and Roll is still pretty much alive. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll!

Rock music died in the 90's and pretty much has remained dead, unfortunately, in my opinion.
