Nipples are formed before the influence of gender kicks in. It is then that the Y chromosome decides to form the male genitals etc. There is no benefit in not having them. In fact, I would hazard a guess and say that a man without nipples would have a harder time passing on his genetic material than someone with nipples, because it would look abnormal.
So it may well be a disadvantage to be missing them.

It probably has something to do with everybody starting out as a female until testosterone starts changing the fetus. It may be just sharing most all of the chromosomes except the sex chromosomes and the parts that deal with nipples was added to a non-sex determining chromosomes sometime in the past.

theirs actually a book by that title that answers many odd questions
the truth is all fetus' form the same way... in the beggining (before we have a gender) nipples are formed and then our distinguishing body parts so the body's not gonna go back and re due what its already done... your stuck with nips no matter what.

becuase they are cool to touch and they look normal and they are funny to twist and hurt people :P hehe IM SO EVIL :) mwahahah.. im sorry i dont really know the real reason!
