It is true that taking the pill has been a remedy used commonly to slow the periods of a woman who bleeds profusely. My doctor put me on the pill for that same reason when I was 15 years old. It worked and I always knew when they would come after that.

Birth control pills do not prevent you 100%, but yeah, I started taking them to alleviate severe cramps and heavy periods and it worked. It also cleared up my complexion, but to be fair it wasn't too bad to begin with. Some people have horrible emotional reactions to the pills, but others are fine. Talk to your doctor about which kind would be best for you and if that kind gives you negative symptoms, then try a new one. Be aware that they will probably make you gain some weight.

I heard that doctors have said that it can help breakouts, but my advice to you is NOT to use pills. They can be very very harmful for your over all health. (my friends who have been on the pill have likened it to being pregnant, with huge emotional swinging freaking out etc.) There is much literature on the dangers of birth control pills. There are many other ways to get rid of acne such as cleaning out your colon. It is common for a woman to have breakouts before or during periods, because this is the time for cleansing. Rather than suppress the cleansing, (so it can later lead to something far worse) just help your body clear it out faster so that your body doesn't dump the excess toxins on your skin.

Oral BC is sometimes prescibed specifically for Acne, not just for birth control. It can work very well.
I went on it to regulate my periods and my health is now much better.
As just because some people react badly with it doesnt mean it is evil and bad for every woman as some people insist!!
Make an appointment with a GP and have a chat about it.

The pills prevent and 'put-off-' the period by the use of subjected you to hormone supplements (in particular, estrogen) to prevent the eggs being released. If your acne occurs during your period, and the period is caused by such hormones, then it is logical to assume that if you were on the pill, the hormones that suppress the egg release, will suppress the acne outbreak, so yes.

I'm on Ortho-TriCyclin Lo, and i still get pimples, but a significantly smaller amount than before I was on the pill. I think it depends on your pill and hormone dosage.
I do still break out pretty badly on the weeks that I get my period.

It may definately help it. OCPs have been proven to help decrease acne expecially if it is cyclical in nature.
