x^2 + 2x = 5 first thing u wanna do is factor out an x which gives us...
x(x + 2) = 5 now set both equal to 0 that is
x = 0 this is one solution and
x + 2 = 5 and solve for x and this will be ur second solution
x + 2 = 5 subtract 2 from both sides to get
x = 3
So your answer is x = 0 and x = 3.
if you need more help or further clarification email me or im me. Good Luck.

First of all, this equation has to be put into the correct format before it can be factorised.
The correct format is ax + bx + c = 0
So the equation should be re-written as x² + 2x – 5 = 0
Then this formula has to be used in order to solve the equation:
X = (–b ± square root of b² – 4ac) ÷ 2a
So a = 1, b = 2, and c = –5…then plug these values into the above formula:
X = [–2 ± square root of (–2)² – 4(1)(–5)] ÷ 2(1)
X = [–2 ± square root of 4 + 20] ÷ 2
X = [–2 ± 2 + 20] ÷ 2
X = [–2 ± 22] ÷ 2
So this implies that u are going to end up with 2 solutions:
Solution 1: [–2 + 22] ÷ 2 = 20 ÷ 2 = 10
Solution 2: [–2 – 22] ÷ 2 = –24 ÷ 2 = –12
So x = 10 and x = –12...and they’re the solutions! Hope this helps! =)

x^2 + 2x = 5
x^2 + 2x + (2/2)^2 = 5 + (2/2)^2
( x + 1 )^2 = 5 + 1
( x + 1 )^2 = 6
x + 1 = Square root of 6
x + 1 = 2.4495
So,
Let x + 1 = 2.4495
x = 2.4495 - 1
x = 1.4495
Let x + 1 = - 2.4495
x = -2.4495 - 1
x = -3.4495
therefore , x = 1.4495 or -3.4495

Subtract 5 from both sides to get x^2+2x-5=0 This doesn't factor, so you must use the quadratic formula, with a=1, b=2, and c=-5
-b+/-sqrt(b^2-4ac) / 2a
-2+/-sqrt((-2)^2-4(1)(-5)) / 2(1) (plug in numbers)
-2+/-sqrt24 /2 (evaluate inside square root)
-2+/-2sqrt6 /2 (simplifying square root)
-1+/-sqrt6 (divide by two)
So your two answers are -1+sqrt6 and -1-sqrt6
(Make sure you check your solution by plugging it back into the original equation). (The guy above me is totally wrong.)Hope this helps!! =)

First off, re-write it in standard quadratic form
x²+2x-5=0 and then use the quadratic formula (since it won't factor 'nicely')
x = (-2 ±â(4-(-20)))/2 Now...... You do the arithmetic so you'll remember it âº
