in this example especially, relevance of wickets comes into consideration more heavily. for example, 5/ against holland is insignificant in comparison to 5/ against australia.

i didnt know man of the series was done so publically and formulaeically, though..?

i think the man of the series should generally go to the biggest contributor of the series of the team who wins (usually a batter.. unfortunately). for example, matthew hayden, should trends continue, should be man of the series. if south africa win, smith or kallis, and so forth.
unless there is some godly performance elsewhere - such as someone from the losing side amassing 150+ runs more than the stand-out player from the winning side, or something.

of course, its all incredibly subjective, but thats how i feel.. the suspense created by, and the integrity and esteem of the award (MotS) itself is sacrificed if people know the result before it has been awarded.

dravid played under sachin and ganguly captaincy and gave 100 % commited performance but trusted same from senior players and backfired by sachin, ganguly, dhoni bajji zahir and yuvrag…..
