Some automotive enthusiasts add acetone at around 1 part in 500 to their fuel, following claims of improved economy. The practice is controversial as acetone may affect fuel system parts, such as rubber seals. Reports of vehicles covering 50,000 miles (80,000 km) without fault[citation needed] would suggest that the percentage 0.2% acetone to fuel ratio will not adversely affect any parts, pipes, seals etc.

Your car was made to run on gas, not acetone. Why on earth are you thinking of adding acetone? It will not improve performance, nor will it improve mileage. In all likelihood, it will damage the rubber components in your engine.

Part of the reason why regular gas engines can not run on E85, their components are not designed for the higher alcohol content.

best i can remember, acetone is more volitile than gas, so it will burn hotter.that being the case, very small amounts to a large part gas will not hurt it, but will not do much good either. large amounts will make the car run like a scalded dog, right until the pistons flow out the exhaust pipes

i actualy seen on mythbusters, a telivision show that it actualy gives you less fuel milage than pure gasoline they tested this myth because so many people were making the claim that it give them better milage per gallon by adding acetone, and after the tests that they did with carberated, fuel injected and throttle bodie injected all came back with lower milage rates than just pump gas not alot less but less none the less
