Well, officially, it was Germany, but in my view, the "enemy" was that idealistic bungler, Woodrow Wilson. The United States had no business entering into the First World War. It was a European conflict. The only U.S. citizens who were in danger were those who, despite warning, insisted on traveling on the armed passenger ships of belligerent nations (e.g. the British Lusitania). Not satisfied with having gotten the United States into an unnecessary war, Wilson sought to impose his idealistic nonsense further by attempting to bring the United States into the League of Nations. Under the League Covenant, the United States would have been obligated to get involved in political and territorial disputes around the world merely because the League Council ordered it.

America didn't really have a main enemy. America fought in world war one because it's Allies were fighting in the war. That's what a world war is, a global domino effect.

The usual culprit........Germany!! Off course as per usual the French, British and other Euporeans would not do anything and they let it get out of hand. The USA had to step in.

When the Europeans get in a war with each other again......and it will surely happen.......I hope we sit it out. I am really tired of the ungrateful cowardly Europeans who get into wars and then want us to bail them out.

A rivalry was growing with Russia, but since they were too cowardly to fight any one, not many enemies.
