I have had the same two goldfish for almost a year and it has
never been like this.

It started happening after the last water
change. It started as a build up on the
wall and has started to get on everything now. I was afraid to clean it in the beginning because I had done a partial
water change and was afraid to take any more out too soon after that cleaning. The fish seem fine though.

Have you changed anything in the tank recently (new foods, gravel, tank maintenance, water source, medications)?
How large is your tank and how large are the fish?
ADDITION: Is the build up white, or another color? At the top of the water, or throughout? Can you wipe it off, or does it seem permanent?

you can try changing the filter and the water. Have you changed the location of the tank? is it getting to much light? you can also take a sample of the water to your petshop

Are u over feeding, leaving the light on to long or is it in semi direct sunlite? Is the filteration working properly? You can also ask at the pet store, maybe they can recommend something to put in water..

is your fish tank in direct sun light a lot? could be algae..or needs a good cleaning..or both? are you over feeding the goldfish..??..how often do you clean the bowl? what is your source of water?

maybe something is different with the water your filling up your bowl with..
