For about a 3 months now, we keep getting these very small pieces of what i think is calcium deposits in our water. In our kitchen and bathroom, where the faucets have aerator filters, I have to clean the filters about once a week or it will severely restrict our water flow in these faucets. I think maybe its because our hot water heater is getting old. Could it be something more serious though???

Hard water, If you get your water from a well or the city doesn't filter it a lot there are a lot of minerals in the water. Calcium is often found in water. So the minerals deposit of the inside of the pipes until a chunk breaks off. Only way I know of is to get a water softener. These usually use filters and or salts to reduce the minerals in the water.

This could be from the hot water heater, before you think of anything costly, try flushing the hot water heater out, I do twice a year. It extends the life of the heater also.

These are simply calcium deposits that build up from hard water, if it's not to bad and you can live with it, it's cheaper in a long run then a water softener.

You have very hard water, you need to put a water softener on the system. It is the calcium breaking away from the lining of the pipes and the water heater too.

Main cause is water tank. Actually it is not the tanks fault, but it will cause tank failure. First make sure it is not in the cold water too. Assuming it is just the hot water, at the bottom of the tank is a drain valve, hook a garden hose to it to drain. Shut off the water to the tank, open faucet and open drain valve. You can catch some of the water in a pan to verify that the calcium is coming out.

It is mineral deposits from the water. It very well could be from the water heater. The solution is to filter the water before it gets to the water heater (and cold water supply). You might try a water softener.

It's simple, you have calcium in your water. The best thing to do would be to add a water softener system and possibly a new hot water heater.

You do not say what part of the country you live. Many areas have problems with minerals in the water. It does sound like calcium to me. You need to call a water specialist and put a filtration system on your water suply. They test the water and can tell the right treatments to purify your water.

This is not Calcium.

This is Plastic.

Water entering your hot water tank it taken down from the top to near the bottom by a plastic pipe about 1/2 inch in diameter.

This allows the hot water to stay at the top of the tank waiting to be taken away for use.

Over time, this plastic tube disintegrates and granuals get stuck in your areator screen.

The plastic pipe will eventually break off and all you will get from the water tank is warm water,, beause cold incoming water will mix with hot water.

If you are handy, replacement of the tube is relatively easy and the cost of the part should be about $10.

I'm not sure, but I put a water softener in FIRST and it stopped all the calcium. The water is better now too.
