My boyfriend sees himself as a fashion expert, and he treats me like a remedial student. Tonight he informed me that wearing fitted, solid colored t shirts (like Old Navy's "perfect fit" ts) on their own is the same as "wearing underwear." According to him, they are only appropriate to wear when layered under another shirt. I like to wear them on their own with jeans and sneakers. Am I essentionally wearing an undershirt? Or is this appropriate casual dress? I am hoping to say, "I told you so," but I'll be a gracious loser if I am wrong!

I love solid fitted t-shirts - and fitted is a must. I think they look great with jeans, khakis and skirts. I think its all about proportion - from length in torso and arms to cut around the neck. I also look for the quality of the knit. I like a soft, slightly weathered t and my favorite cut is about hip length, 3/4 or elbow length sleeve and jewel neck. I love to wear mine with low-rise boot cuts in a dark wash and ballet flats. If my nails look good, I've got on red lipstick and some great ear rings how could I look like I'm wearing underwear. I never wear sneakers though - only running shoes and then only to run.

i totally agree with you. I can and do wear the very same fitted t-shirts from old navy on their own. They are just simply a shirt that fits closer to the body. Most women do not wear undergarments like men do. that's our bra or cami in most cases. And I have been known to wear my cami on its on if it is bloody hot outside.

if it were meant to be an undershirt, it would be sold as lingerie and not normal apparel.
