We have been divorced for seven years. The x enlised in the ANG the end of last year. He states she does not receive benifits from his employment since she does not live with him. I wonder if she would qualify for medical/dental benifits.. She is 13.

Your intentions sound calloused, especially now at war time.
You could/should have insisted within your divorce decree that he provide insurance as well as financial support to his natural child.

It will be over before you know it. I know a bunch of guys that had kids when I went to basic. I guess it make a difference of how old they are. I would say that if they are 5 or older then they will be find. As longs as they will be able to stay with your hubby they will be fine. Plus, once you join you will be sending a check home while you are training. I would join. The hardest part will be that you wont be able to email or call, you will have to send snail mail which gets kind of annoying after awhile. I think you should. I did and it was totally worth it. Good Luck. P.S.- To all the other guys, yes motherhood is important, but in response I would say that protecting your children and providing them with a future is one of the best parts of being a parent. How better can you do both than by joining the Army. Not only are you protecting you are getting a nice bonus, I smell college money. I take it back, your kids at any age are fine. It's only 9 weeks. Then AIT when you will be able to communicate regularly. What are you thinking about making your MOS.

The child would get some benefits yes. She would be able to recieve some medical and dental. However it is up to your ex as to wether he put the child down to receive any of his SGLI and if he was smart he would place it in a special fund that the girl couldn't touch until she was at least 18.
I would like to point out that you do sound like one of those greedy ex wives, but I do understand the benefit of medical and dental.

My x was in the national guard and yes they do get all bennifits and money out of there checks. And you daughter is intittled to it all. As she should be if they don't want to give it up talk to his GI or his caption you will get results. No one wants anyone to defend there country if they won't even defend there own flesh and blood!!! To the 1st answer. That child deserves this from her father and you need to get over your self and take care of your own life!!!

I can't help but get this mental picture of you standing there with your hand open and dollar signs in your eyes. Let him get on with his life and enjoy his new position rather than querying about how much more money/benefits you can squeeze out of him.

YES she would recieve all benifits as his blood child... a divorce from you does NOT mean a divorce from his child..... call the closest army nat. guard office and they can direct you on where to go to get the info if they can not tell you..... the child HAS THE RIGHT to claim her rights and the child of a soldier !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless
