Of course if you have a tax number and can buy wholesale, the price would be lower, but at retail, you need 2 spools of thread, good thread like Gutermanns at $3.50 each. If you are tying the quilt, throw in another $3.00 for embroidery thread. If you are quilting it, $4.00 a spool for quilting thread. Batting is $2.50 and up, and you need 2 yards. For fabric you need about 3 yards of all the different colors, plus another 2 yards for the back, and a yard for the binding, at $7.50 per yard for quilting cotton. So, you are in for $60.00. But that's for the quilt that will be the most precious in your child's life, and will be shown to your descendants long after you are gone. That's quite a bargain!

This is such an open ended question. If you have a quilt shop nearby stop in there and look at the fabric and see what the prices are.If you only have a Joanns then of course the fabric will be less expensive. There are some great patterns for quick and easy baby quilts out there-some use minimum fabric and some call for more.Great Big Star is an easy one and doesn't require a lot of fabric.
It can be done as inexpensively as you want-thread prices range as does batting and fabric.
It can be anywhere from $20-50.
Just make sure you do a label for the back so the baby knows who made the quilt.

It depends on what style of quilt you are making. Since this obviously is a first time quilt, I am sure you are using a simple pattern. For an heirloom quilt just be sure to buy quality 100% cotton that can run on average about $7.50 a yard. Cotton is a natural fabric and will not disintegrate with time like synthetic fabrics. Be sure to wash the fabric before cutting it out, this way, your quilt will have very little shrinkage. I suggest you get a hold of a quilting guild near you. Most quilters are very kind and helpful people.

it can range a great deal, the baby quilt i made my grand daughter she really loved was made of flannel kids prints, it is usually 5 dollars a yard at joanns but i found it on sale for 3 dollars a yard, it took a yard and a half for the backing then strips of half yard sections to make the blocks, i think i had 5 different prints, so the back was three dollars and the front was 7.50, then i had two packages of wide cotton binding for the edges, and one layer of quilt batting, so i think the whole thing was less than 20 dollars and i had lots of hunks left so i made her some clothes for her dolls and a stuffed animal and a pillow with the scraps. the blocks were simple 6 inch squares. she used that quilt on the floor every day for her nap when i took care of her. now if she picks up her quilt you know its nap time and often she will drag it behind her to her big girl bed, shes 2 and a half now.

The last baby quilt I made I used 5m of cotton fabric at $8/m, one spool of thread at $2.00 and a spool of hand quilting thread at around $3.50. The batting cost me about $10. So, all in all, I spent around $56.00 CDN plus the hours it took to make the quilt. This all depends on where you shop as well; I bought all my materials at Wal-Mart, which is a little cheaper - expect to pay more elsewhere.

There are many ways to knock the price down if you need too. You can go buy good sturdy fabric brand new at around $3.00 to $8.00 yard. Or to save money you can use old clothes, sheets, tablecloths. If you don't have any laying around you can pick up some at the thrift shops. The batting will cost you around $5 to $8 depending on brand and thickness. Hope this helps some.

Really depends on what cloth you use and the filling. Anyone eat the fabric store can help you but it'd be best to ask an older lady there--more experience.

Just make sure that whatever you pick is fireproof after washings!!!!
