Erick Marie Remarque's "All Quiet On The Western Front"...
The 'Front' is where they battle, yes.
In WWI, the subject war of the book, the 'western' front was mainly France, where the french 'Maginot Line' was supposed to repel the german army. It didn't.
The purpose of the book was to broadcast the horrors of war. It did.
The author's message was "war is hell".

It's the trench line between the French and German forces in France during WW1.
The purpose of this book is to show that the men on both sides are basically the same with the same fears and hopes.
The message is the waste and futility of war
