Using the formula, t=2π√(L/g), L = (t/2π)^2 x g = (1/3 / 2π)^2 x 9.81 = 0.0276 m ≈ 1.087 in (that is one short pendulum, lol)

From the look of it, this seems to be high school physics. If you want to understand the derivation of it, you would need to know diferential calculus (the last college class for calculus). Here is a good description of it.
