I have a wireless network in my house, with two printers and an external hard drive hooked up to a desktop computer in my living room. I can get to all my files, music, and stuff on the desktop computer from my laptops when I'm in the network IF the desktop computer is on, which is great; but I'd like to be able to access my stuff without always having to leave it on. So is there some kind of wireless adapter or something that I can plug in my wireless hard drive and 2 printers (all USB) into that will let me access them from my laptop even if my desktop is not on?

I've got a wireless router with ethernet ports.

Is there any way to make this work with my existing hard drive? I'd rather not buy another one, that has "NAS"

Yes, this can be done but you would have to purchase three items. First you would need to purchase a wireless router that supports USB Storage, such as the D-link 624S USB storage router.

Then you would have to purchase two USB Wireless print servers such as the D-link DP-G310 USB Wireless Print Server.

Total cost should be about $270.00 if you purchase brand new or if you purchase on ebay you probably could get them for about half that......

Yes, Get a NAS (Network Attached Storage) drive with a built in print server.

You either have to plug it into a hard connection on your wireless router, OR if you don't have a hard connection available, you'll have to get a wireless bridge and plug it into that.

In short, the NAS drive is accessed via a name like //NAS1 like any other network resource. Then you plug the printer(s) into the USB ports on the drive. Just make sure you get a NAS with print server capability.

Can't do it with the stuff you currently have.

It is possible to have those options available to you. You would have to buy a printer with wireless capability to get wireless printing.

In order to have access to an external hard drive while the computer is off, you would have to get one that is designed to be a wireless Network attached storage device.

I think you need a wireless printer router, if you want to share your printers.
