I like Jimi Hendrix but if you asked me i would say "yeah he was one hell of a guitar player, but not the best one out there." One reason i say this is because i play guitar myself and i can play a lot of his stuff, but there are other guys out there that i noticed that play a lot harder stuff like Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde or Eddy Van Halen.

I agree, Jimi was great. But the fact is, any time a talented artist dies young, people tend to wildly exaggerate their skill (see also, Andy Kaufman, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix). Hendrix stays forever young, and he has precious few imitators.

Because even kids like myself at the age of 23 can appreciate the heck out of Mr. Hendrix.

He and the rest of the band/s made excellent music that I can and always do listen to.

Plus not only was his guitar amazing, but his voice was simply beautiful. Now Im sure there are better singers for other people, but I could hear Jimi's voice in his songs, this guy just made me feel what he was saying.

I can only wish one day someone comes along and plays like the greats that I was not fortunate enough to be able to enjoy live or in their prime. Im sick of all these bands that come out now sounding the same, or boring. Why cant I have my Jimi Hendrix's, and Pink Floyds, and Tom Petty's damn it?

Well atleast I can appreciate Rage Against the Machine a little bit, whoo hoo for them reuniting!

Jimi is an Icon like Janis or Jim Morrison. I have to put Jimi up there in the top 5 guitar players of all time. He was left handed & just imagine all the music he would have made had he lived past 27 yrs. old. The music he did when he was alive will live on forever.

He was the first to do so many things with the guitar that no one had every tried. he was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic and phasing effects during recording. Hendrix arguably did more than any other player to make the Stratocaster the biggest-selling electric guitar in history. He was one of the first guitarists to move past simple gimmickry and to exploit the full expressive possibilities of electronic effects such as the wah-wah pedal.
