My "hillbilly" heritage-- many people make it seem as something that should be thought of as shameful---and sorry about posting this in the wrong catagory

There are two types of people; those that are lazy, do illegal things, live off of others and then there are those who work, eek out a living as best they can, are good hearted. Which are your people?

Just because they are from the Appalachian's doesn't mean they should be blown off. There are many good people there and some that are not so good too. Poverty stinks and drags people down. Look at the whole picture, then decide. It's pretty hard to "ignore" a part of who you are.

you should be proud of your heritage, yes. not sure why you are asking. are you not sure it is something to be proud of? sometimes folks do make fun of it. come back with some things that are interesting about the culture of the area.

Never ignore your heritage. You don't know where you're going if you don't know where you or your ancestors have been. You may discover a few new things about yourself.
