They have been complaining about the war constantly. They say the American people spoke in November and want a change in course in Iraq. The American people did speak but obviously they weren't listening. It is rather simple. Since they despise President Bush and this war, why don't they just defund it? Either defund it or fund it. Is this so hard to figure out? They have the power, so what exactly are they waiting on?

They don't need benchmarks. They can simply defund the war.

They haven't been trying. Pelosi to Syria, non-binding resolutions, and pork bills are not trying. Simply defund it. They have the majority. What is the hold up?

So is a Bush-hater actually going to answer the question? I am getting poll numbers, propaganda, and the normal dodging of the question. Why don't they defund? If they defund, we bring the troops home. We don't leave them there for eternity with no money.

They're waiting to see which way the political wind is blowing -- just as they were doing when they funded and supported it originally... Clinton, Kerry, et al.

You're right. They could end the war tomorrow. But that would take courage and adherence to principles. A commodity not in abundance in Washington today. It's the next election that matters now.

They know that cutting funding will not solve the problem. Some people can see past Fox news talking points. They are putting the US military in a position to eventually leave Iraq. Something the war architects do not want.
What is your reason for wanting the US military to stay in Iraq permanently? I can assure you it is far different than those who put us there to begin with. How is construction going on those permanent military bases going by the way?

Also, it seems President Bush will be de-funding the war with his veto.

Becuase it must be politcal suicide for them. in the adventure that they defund the warfare; the troops ought to come domicile, this united states ought to ascertain this as a unfavorable on the president, a Democrat ought to win the presidency and ought to could bypass decrease back there and freshen up the mess they made via leaving contained in the technique the pastime they did not enable us end.

It is the wrong war for the wrong reason. Had we gone after Osama Bin Laden I doubt you would have people against the war. The Congress is listening to the people but the Administration is not. As a result the Republicans will pay the price in November of 2008.

Because that would be stupid. The best thing to do right now is to keep the pressure up. Hopefully, Bush will snap out of his case of denial and realize that most of the people of this country want our troops out of Iraq and probably never would have supported going there if they had known then what they know now.

Yeah I bet you would love to be sitting over there after a fire fight and go back to base to find out you have no more ammo. No one is that dumb, you can't just cut them off. Its not the soldiers fault that a moron sent them there, they are citizens of this country and need to be supported in that way. If Bush were there fighting with Cheney for instance, than I am positive they would cut funding ASAP.

By de-funding the war we would be screwing our troops, we can't do that. Our troops don't get what they need over there as is (Haliburton is taking it before it get's to them). The Bush administration needs to get over their egotisical bullshit and have a civil meeting with all politicians until they can figure out a solution to the problem. But instead all our politicians do (democrat and republican alike) is bicker like a bunch of grade schoolers

We'll find out next week - the war funding bill is due to be sent to Bush. I expect some pretty fireworks from Bush, and some no nonsense hard dealing from Pelosi and the dems.

They know that Bush will veto any bill that includes defunding. They already have enough defeats on their plate, having been unable to pass a single bill in their first much-vaunted 100 hours. It's politically more clever for them to just keep the issue on the front-burner for the media without having to actually present the dish.
