I think the candle thing is getting too overused. Unless SHE loves them. A piece of jewelry would be nice.
The best thing you could give her is a picture of her son in a frame and a picture of you two in another frame
and one of the three of you( mom son and you) in another frame, She will love it if you have to make the frame out of cardboard and tinfoil ! lol and if she doesn't~ it wouldn't matter what you gave her it wouldn't be good enough.
A mom of many,
with grown children...
all loved and
of various incomes :)

Well commonly I thought it was for the child of the parent to get their mother the gift. But if you are doing it for your mother in law I would say flowers in a nice vase or something. I would probably skip the candle unless she is a candle person.

I'd go with the candle. You don't really know her taste in jewelry, it might end up in the jewelry box. A decorated candle will be used.

I would get her the jewelry if she wears jewelry often. The candle and flowers if she is a homebody type who likes to decorate.
Or I'd take her out to dinner and say thanks for having such a great son!!

It really doesn't matter what the gift. Pick either you want to give her. All she wants on Mother's Day is a visit, or call if you live too faraway.
Sorry to say ...flowers will be what i get for my mom. She died 10 years ago. But I always ask God to please give her a hug for me until I get there and can do it myself.
So add a big hug, and let her know love.

She collects DVD's of the Gaither family gatherings from around the world. I've given her many in her collection. I also have bought her a book on influential mothers and their famous children. The book describes how the mothers molded and influenced the children's lives.
