Do a simple google search and you will find tons on this very issue:

The Fourth Crusade (1201–1204) was originally designed to conquer Jerusalem through an invasion of Egypt. Instead, in April 1204, the Crusaders of the West invaded and conquered the Eastern Orthodox city of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire.

It was all about money and power. Most Western Europeans cared little for crusades to the Holy Land but the merchants and traders saw a way to use the zeal there was to their own ends, that is to diminish the trading ability of Byzantium and to gain money and power and increased trade routes for themselves.

As far as the sacking of Constantinople, this was one of the saddest days in all of Christendom. Unfortunately the racist western Europeans, Romans, couldn't get the idea that Greeks and Arabs could be Christian so they killed them all in horrible ways.
