I have been playing softball my whole life, I was an awesome shortstop all through highschool and beyond, But now i am afraid of the ball. Its not because I was hit or anything like that its like I have no confidence anymore. I am getting older what is my problem, I have stoped running up on the ball and wince when a ball is hit to me. I have asked to play another positon but my teamates think Im just having a bad couple games. idon;t want to admit to them I am afraid.

You need to let a couple of balls hit you until you realize that it isn't that bad. It's all mental, get that vacuum of a glove out of the closet and play like you know how. It's just a little ball, take control of it and be the ball player you know you are.

I had the same thing happen to me in school. I never got hit or anything but for some reason I would fear the ball ever getting hit to me. I can't answer why you are afraid, because I don't know why I was but I cured the fear when my dad took me to the baseball field and drilled grounders at me for an hour

You may have had a change in your vision, a slight shift in the axis of your eyes, or a change in your vision can effect how your see the ball.
For me personally My axis is one eye over the other (double vision is one over the other not side by side) this causes the ball to shift or drop when my dominate eye takes over, close up.
Near and far sighted can effect you, a clear ball can go fuzzy/or fuzzy can go very sharp, as it nears you. Have your eyes checked and enjoy the game.
