To take a clear picture of an image in a flat mirror, should the camera be focused on the image or on the surface of the mirror?

Think about what is the mirror doing.

Assuming it is a flat mirror, all it is doing is changing the direction of the light so that the reflected object appears to be behind the mirror rather than in front.

As far as the light reaching your eye, or in this case the camera, there is no difference between an object in front of a mirror and an object behind a piece of glass.

If you were taking a picture through a piece of glass, would you focus on the surface of the glass or on the object?
