I am no expert, but I believe it has a lot to do with the arbitrary partitioning of the Ottoman empire after it collapsed. Instead of dividing the countries along cultural and religious boundaries, some western fool just drew lines in the sand. This caused a lot of internal problems that were blamed on the great Satan, aka the West.

I would also say Israel might have a lot to do with it.

Anyone know a good answer? Please don't blame the current President, these problems are much older than his term in office.

Maybe because most other countries do too? Maybe because we bully other countries and kill without remorse?

Friends from foreign countries have one common complaint that the USA is. too imperialistic. The debate goes from the Peace Corp and grows. Some cultures have societies that are Base sole on religion and we set up a democracy. Some countries are run be war lords, and we send food and arms. Some countries want to develop energy and we set up embargo's. Some countries have systems in place to be nomadic and western influences redrew the territories. Outside influences have interfered with tradition.
Instead of letting development take it's course The USA deals for an advantage all their own. We have become the world manipulators and foreign cultures resist this authority.

Lets look at something for a minute. were talking about nations that were around before Jesus walked the earth. These people are only defending the lifestyle and religions that they were raised to believe, no matter what we think over here, you cannot go into a man's home and change the way he has things set up. You cannot force people to believe as you do, this is the great mistake that W has made, he thought that those people would bow down to his authority, but power is no power at all in the face of a stout heart!

The question is: why do you interfere plenty in our lives, why do you even care besides? i don't hate the west yet i hate the assumption of viewing yourselves because of fact the rescuers who're coming to take us forward from the dark a while, although you're basically taking our supplies. might desire to you tell me what has usa been doing in Iraq and is doing maximum suitable now in Afghanistan? i in my opinion won't have the ability to locate a satisfying answer fairly than destroying our countries!

Muslims see us as pagan infidels. Just compare the way their women are required to dress and then look at how our women dress, and it's not just how we dress, we're "allowed" to do any work that men do. They believe it is wrong to drink alcohol. Look at how our young people's culture is portrayed in movies and elsewhere. Look at how we live compared to how they live. And on top of all this we support Israel, the thorn in their sides. The only reason they have anything to do with us at all is that we buy their oil in such great volumes. However, that too is soon to change. China is quickly becoming a major oil consumer. They don't need us at all anymore. So now they feel free to attack us.

This is a fabulous question.
I agree. Those two decisions were pretty stupid. It really has done a whole lot of damage to the world taking land and deciding for other countries who gets what. I had never liked Carter but from a historical point of view his new book is really amazing and goes on to prove your point. They tried really hard to discredit it but even his opponents haven't found any inaccuracies, which made me want to read it.
Thank you for posting this question. I'm giving you a star.

If hatred is measured in finite numbers, I would say they hated us 33% before GW Bush and 99% since.

Just like today's American do not know or care about the Ottoman empire, Middle Easterns don't know or care either.

Their focus is on Georgie and his evil doings in their affairs.

I don't believe it's hate but aggravation. the west imposes itself on the east, which is obvious in the invasion of Iraq, the American attitude towards Iran, and the Palestinian land given to the Jews by the british. I don't want to make any assumptions on who is right or wrong, I just think you should look at where they're feelings are coming from.

Israel is a good reason. We are Christians, predominantly. We have and have had a great military presence in that region, since WWII. And the #1 reason, (drum roll) we are prosperous!!! Yes, misery loves company.

You said that we shouldn't mention the current President, but that's unavoidable. One can't deny that our recent activities in the region have really pissed them off, far more than they were.

i would say you already have part of the answer.many of the countries in the middle east,Africa and south east asia were given borders that had no relevance to cultureal conditions on the ground.
as to the middle-east "hating "us as recently as the year 2000 a majority of people in the middle east looked upon the U.S. favorably despite our support for Israel. this has been radically changed by our aggressive policies in south Asia and the middle east.
