I mean seriously is it worth paying all of this money studying one field just to realize once we get older that we don't no longer have interest in what we are studying so we settle for some mediocre job that just helps us get by? What is you insight?

College has become a social construct by which people's worth is measured. If you don't graduate, then you are not considered to be good enough to give a job to. THis is laughable, considering most of the people who graduate do so by placing so much of it on loan that they didn't really need to work or anything while in college, just play fantasy whatever. This is actually where most of the advancement of women recently is coming from, and it is superficial since a degree doesn't really mean you know anything.

If you're sure of what you want to do in life then college is ok. But I dont see college as worth it if you're not going to do something with it. I have my Associate's Degree which means I just have all the required courses completed. I am currently not attending a 4 year college because I dont yet know for sure what I want to do with the rest of my life. But when I figure that out at least I wont have to waste time getting all the required courses completed. I do plan on going back someday but right now I just want to concentrate on being a good mother to my daughter.

Depends on what you want to do and what field. My education has opened doors for me and at least given me the opportunity to get jobs. Some people wont even consider you for a job unless you have that piece of paper. Does that mean one with a degree is smarter than the one w/o? No. Does that mean that everyone with a degree in one subject is limited to jobs in that field: not always. I know a lot of people that are doing things totally opposite of what they studied. But at least it may allow you the opportunity for your choice of jobs (depending again on the field of work).

Colleges (in my opinion) generally just want your money. I'm not going cuz I'm going into a trade school. I can't afford college and I'd rather get a good job early with less education than waste the best years of my life and so much money on a degree that isn't dependable enough to get me a good job later on. Colleges are very good for some people, but for me, I'd rather just be realistic and skip it. I could always go back! :)

I think an education is very important! Trust me you cannot find a really good job if you don't have that peice of paper. Especially in my field, Social Work, you will never get a decent job if you dont have at least a Bachelors Degree.

Life can be very tough without college, or some type of trade school. You may do a job as well or better than someone who has the education, but if you don't have that "piece of paper" l guarantee you, there's a big difference in salary.

College serves more than preparing one for a career. It also prepares a person to be a responsible adult. One must go to classes without any reminders. The same with being responsible for completing homework, studying for tests, getting enough sleep, getting three meals a day for good health. All these preparations teach one how to organize time to complete all obigations.

Most people who have college degrees work in a field unrelated to their degree. Most employeers just want to know if you are trainable and can stick to something difficult for a few years without giving up and quitting. A college degree says "yes" to both of these and trust me it does pay off bigtime in the long haul of life.

My observation is that the dumber you are, the more likely you are to be financially successful. Do I think my years at uni were a waste? No. But money isn't my priority. The knowledge I gained enriched me as a person, and if it gets me a great job, that's just a bonus.

College has a great purpose, your ambition to further your education, looks good on any job application. Even, if its not what you studied for in college. If they are so inclined and hire you, they will send you for more classes. Take advantage of that.
