i was in the viet nam conflict and most americans ignored this war too and burned our flags and called up baby killers...not much has changed...we will never unite as the liberal's and present day hippies are not willing to fight for the cause of freedom..
how sad? the military has alwasys been very conservative...and for a very good reason...I don't blame people for ignoring the war..just don't give up on our troops who are giving their life blood to preserve our freedoms back home.
God Bless America

We support the soldiers, but they aren't the ones making the decisions about what the policies are. What we strongly disagree on is the politics in Washington.
Example: It is believed by many experts and most Iraqi people that if we draw down our troops significantly the support for the insurgents among the Iraqi population will also strongly decrease. It was actually a part of the original idea of how Bush was going to get us out of Iraq if Iraqis greeted us as heroes like some members current administration predicted and did not happen.
Most republicans refuse to believe this and most democrats accept it.
It is also a concern that this war is costing the nation terribly and will strongly cause increased taxes in the future to pay for the war plus interest. Again a slim majority of republicans have stated that this is not a problem or their problem, and all democrats have denounced it.

An ancillary intent of the war in Iraq WAS to unite the nation...and it worked, for a short time.
Unfortunately for the Bush administration, the people--slowly--began to see that uniting the nation was SIMPLY an ancillary reason for the war, and that the real reason was to create an endless war (or the threat of one). This way the military industrial complex (which the prescient REPUBLICAN President Dwight D. Eisenhower identified) could extend its grip on the U.S. government, on the world, and--ultimately--on the world's wealth.
Wake up! You are a part of the problem, NOT the solution!

I think every American agrees that we have to support our soldiers. But what the American people are finally waking up to and don't agree with are the lies and falsehoods we were fed by Bush. He said it was a war on terror - Saddam had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11. He said Saddam had weapons of Mass Destruction - hello, another myth exploded.
What is has all been about so far is OIL, which by the way I bought regular for $3.03 today and get back at Saddam for trying to assasinate his Daddy. Oh and of course so that Cheney, Halliburton and their ilk can make obscene amounts of money off the American taxpayer.
How many days in office does this guy have left? Will we even have a country by the time he gets done? Or will we just be the laughing stock of the entire world?
Do you really believe we should just keep sending our troops in to be killed to support a failed policy or to make Cheney and his friends richer?
It certainly isn't making the world safer for us or the Iraqi people.

politicians only mirror our own ignorance or wisdom. we cannot unite as a great nation when people are emotionaly involved with their own point of view.have you ever attempted to disagree with someone who's only point of view is myopic? for example the current Republican base can be mobilized by any issue that has god, gun control or gays in it. Rove and his minions can guarantee the base will turn out in any election where they can play up those three flash points. the real issues will not be discussed or decided only a need to validate a particular point of view.

Liberalism and socialism are everything I'm against, and this country is full of liberals and socialists. They are destroying this nation and our freedoms. So I do not intend on uniting with that which I am against! They have been achieving power over the last 40 years through small increments, and now it's snow balling out of control down a path of national suicide!

We are divided among those who know only what the news tells us, such as our soldiers are dying in Iraq, and those who think about such things as what they might actually be doing over there, which the news does not bother to explore since it detracts from space needed to tell us about Anna's baby.

In a way you are right. If we were Iran every man woman and child would fight to the death for their country and beliefs. All we do is tear each other apart. Hostile countries know this too thats what gives Korea and Iran legs to stand against the great power of the US because it's not as powerful anymore.

There has always been conflicting opinions as to our Country's policies...that is part of what makes the USA a great place to be...can you imagine doing or saying any of the things we do or say here (right or wrong) in any other country...without being beheaded, shot, or shipped off to the Gulag???

We've become balkanized in this country. A collection of interest groups. We can't unite until people get over their selfishness and look beyond the interests of their own narrow group.
