Get a closer look at the car. Check the bottom of the car and see if there is any holes in the floor pans, check quater panels for rust, if the paint is old, take a magnet with you and see if there is any bondo on it. There are many things that you need to keep an eye out for, around the windsheild and the rear window, see if there looks like it has a good seal, or once again, rust. Check everywhere for rust. I just bought a 72' Ford Galaxie for $700, all orginal, and it runs. So, make sure you do your homework and don't settle on the price. More than likely its a POS, someone is just trying to get more money than its worth out of it.

i own a repair shop and it being a 74 model don't make it worth that much,if it was a 72 or older it would be worth a lot more, id offer him around 1500 at the most for it,those can still be made to look good there just not that popular of a car right now though, but 1500 and that would be high for it,but it could be made in to a nice one eventually, good luck with it hope this helps.

Donate it to charity, the tax deduction is probably worth more than the car.
