Don't you think that we have enough technology now to at least make my comment somewhat possible? Well, think about it, if the bible does not want us to play God but it I think it indicates that we should do anything possible to survive for as long as possible we would still be fulfilling Gods wish...We are nothing but a mere speck relative to the Universe. If were able to store our memories and contents of our brain into a computer, perhaps we would be able to travel those mere 20 "light years" to explore other solar systems.....I personally believe that we cannot be the only beings in the Universe and that we are primitive in comparison, until we can live longer, much longer, ie: at least 50 light years longer, we will not even be able to explore Neptune in our lifetime..I believe that society really needs to look at these things, I believe that without the ability to live as other forms, (ie, some sort of computer or hard drive) that we will never be to live life to the fullest!!

No we don't even know what part of the brain does what and there is no way to "download" our memories.... Too many comic books. It must have been a slow day at middle school today.

I've thought about this same thing, but came up with these questions:
If a copy of all your memories, emotions, feelings; your complete personality, everything about you could somehow be downloaded into a computer, would it be you? Or would it just be a copy of you? What would have to happen to the original you for the copy to be made? Without feet, arms, eyes and all the other body parts, would the copy go insane? To be the real you, all those parts would be necessary. Perhaps if the copy was downloaded into the brain of a robot, it might work, but wouldn't it still be a copy? Maybe the whole brain would have to be transplanted into the robot, but the brain would still be organic. However, I don't think we're even close to making copies of the human brain, but I'm not a computer expert.
Oh well - interesting though.

Ever heard of Quantum entanglement?...briefly it is the state of an Electron .... For example, it is possible to prepare two particles in a single quantum state such that when one is observed to be spin-up, the other one will always be observed to be spin-down and vice versa, this despite the fact that it is impossible to predict, according to quantum mechanics, which set of measurements will be observed. As a result, measurements performed on one system seem to be instantaneously influencing other systems entangled with it so in effect what effects one particle affect another somewhere in the Universe. This has prompted ideas of a Quantum Teleportation possibility. Thus Distance under such a circumstance is illusory.. As far as Downloading your brain...why not just rebuild it.?...make it faster...give it quantum mechanical abilities of recall and investigation...Human beings are Evolving...and will forever evolve...what separates us from the Lower life forms on planet Earth is Our ..conciousness and our Brain power. To say that we cannot Improve either by synthetic creation of ourselves or by becoming pure intellect..in either case we are evolving. If we do not destroy ourselves before we can use what we are learning...we will become a Galactic Species.. not bound by present restraints of thought or Material manipulation.

Current computer technology does NOT even come close to anything like the brain. Computers can hardly similate basic human motion much less the synthesis that the human brain does.

even if some day that would be possible, then you would be making a copy of you. It wouldn't be really you, there is no transfer of personality. So when you die the other would live on, like a brother or son, not you.

"We" are not our memories, but our hopes and desires, our creativity to come up with a question such as your own. It is impossible to my mind that we will (in the near future) ever be able to design a computer that can go all that.

what good would that be ... it wouldn't be you .. just something like you...

you would need to take a pill that stopped or reversed the aging process.
