I have a little tomato plant starter that was given to me at work. It is a miniature clay type pot (with a tiny hole in the bottom for watering purposes). It came with a flat quarter size disk that goes in the pot, which is the dirt and seeds. I don't have any instructions on how you start this thing. Do I just put water over the disk in the pot?? thanks

Yes, first I would place the disk in the the pot and and put the pot in a bowl to catch the excess water since your pot has a hole in the bottom for drainage. You will need to soak the disk with warm water (not hot) for 5 to 10 min until it becomes full size. Set the pot with something underneeth (to catch future waterings) in a sunny window and water everyday, do not let it dry out! (The excess water will drain from the bottom.) Once your tomato is a few inches high you can set it outside on warm days, take it in at night if frost is possible, to get the plant aclimated to the outside. After there is no chance of frost you can plant the tomatoe plant in a sunny location in the yard or transplant it to a bigger (much bigger) planter.
**Remember this will be a large plant that may need to be staked up so it doesn't fall over. If you keep it in a pot you will have to becareful of root rot. The tomato will have to be 'fed' fertilized and not overwatered to help prevent the rootrot.
Hope this helps a little!

Put the disc in the pot, set pot on a saucer, and water. The disc will soak up tons of water. Keep very moist and in a sunny area. You will need to transplant it when it gets about 4-5" tall.

yes and set it in the sun. I would cover it loosely to create a hot house effect but with air circulation for a few days until it sprouts.
