I had a siemens ram card in a slot which reads 8Mx64 SDRAM. Black rectangles on one side only.

It was in an old dell with a pentium II and windows 2000.

I had intermittent sound coming from my audio all the time, so someone told me I need more RAM and it will be much faster than the virtual memory it is now trying to deal with.

So I bought the only thing possibly compatible at Best Buy which was a 256mb DDRAM (black on both sides) and replaced the 8Mx64.
My question is; Is the 8mx64 8x64=512 MEG???Is my old RAM MORE THAN MY DOUBLE SIDED 256mb???

The ram that you had in your dell is 64MB. pentium II and windows 2000 require a minimum RAM of 64 MB therefore I am sure that's what you have. As far as 256MB from Best Buy, it's a good idea but you might want to invest or consider looking at a new PC. Computers generally last around 5 years or less. Technology doubles every 2 years therefore in 2 years your PC will be outdated and the parts to upgrade will cost more than investing in a new PC. I hope this answer helps you with the memory upgrade though.

That's natural for 32-bit models of Windows computer running techniques. You can lose wherever from 256MB to 1GB on account that of the the ought to reserve deal with house for reminiscence-mapped I/O instruments. A sixty four-bit variation of Windows would not have this predicament, or a 32-bit variation of Windows that helps PAE (bodily deal with extension) When you begin the laptop, the BIOS will have to thoroughly notice all 4GB or RAM.

Your Siemens sdram (most likely just 64Mb) comes in a 164 pin module w/ 2 notches like in here:

DDR SDRAM comes in a 184 pin module w/ single notch like in here:

If the 256Mb you bought is like this, you can not use it.
