All drains connected to the sewage system need a trap.
You certainly don't want me, Sewer Gas, backing up into your house...I eat too much.

Yes you need a P-trap above the floor, and you should have a vent through the roof, and you need a clean out tee installed, above the flood rim of the washer, so that you can access the drain system, in case of a stoppage. Good luck!

Most washer installations have a p trap and need one in order to prevent sewer gas from entering the living space .Some installations use a check valve to but I don't recommend this because it will eventually fail.

yes it needs a trap. as others mintioned about he sewer gas
localy we have to have the trap above floor not so long ago we could put them under the floor. check with your local building code office.
It also must be vented outside .within 4 feet of the drain.

The "P" trap is to keep sewer gases from backing into the machine, toilet, or sink so yes.
