OH MYYYY GOD!
Please tell me your not that common sense challenged?
For the sake of the animal ( if you care anything at all about it's life ), get it into the hands of someone who knows what they are doing and who actually cares about it. I can tell you don't care, based on the blatant ignorance of your question...and your desire to thwart genetics, biology, and evolution....just because you don't like what it eats! Anyone who cared about their animal would know enough about it, to know enough not to ask such a question. Google could have told you as much if you had done a websearch before getting a snake.
You have no business owning an animal.
"itskatyo"-You're just as dense. Petco feeds their rodent eating snakes PRE-KILLED FROZEN. THAT'S why the sign in the store says that. THEY'RE ALREADY DEAD when Petco feeds the snakes! You can't make a snake that eats animal matter, eat plant matter instead.
If you can't deal with the animal's natural diet-then you maybe shouldn't have the animal, rather than twist it's biological functions to suit your ignorance. Those that said you can't change it's diet know what they are talking about. I hope you don't have a snake!
"jesusislord"-the answers are well deserved to a foolish pet owner who has an animal suffer for their self absorbed indulgence and ignorance. Words were meant for use, and the fault lies with DESERVING THEM.

ALL snakes are carnivores, not only are their rather simple brains hard-wired to only recognize other animals as food, but their digestive systems cannot process anything BUT animal protein. No matter how hungry a snake gets, it would not eat any plant or non-animal matter, and if it were force-fed such things, it would die. It's body could not extract nutrients from plant material at all. To starve an animal in order to force it to eat something unnatural to it, or to forcefeed it something that would be essentially a poison to its system would be a cruelty far greater than that of feeding one animal to another animal, so the person who suggested that you starve the snake in order to force it to accept a vegetarian diet is a horribly cruel and ignorant individual!
Many snakes will accept frozen/thawed, pre-killed prey, which is available commercially from many sources if you don't wish to feed live prey to your snake, which, in the case of rodents, is probably not a good idea, anyway. Live rodents can seriously injure the snake. If the whole notion of one animal eating another animal is that abhorant to you, WHY did you get a snake in the first place, when there are many reptiles that are strict vegetarians? I have to wonder if you're simply "trolling" when you asked that question, seriously.

Wow, there are some nasty answerers around here...
Anyway, you can't make a snake vegetarian. Snakes are 100% carnivorous. There are some animals that are naturally carnivorous that can be taught to eat plant matter, but snakes aren't like that. If you don't offer them meat, they'll die.
Now, you can offer them dead critters if it bothers you to see some poor little rodent running for its life. You can buy frozen mice at most pet stores. Just thaw them out and drop them in the tank, and your snake should be just fine with eating them.

Why do you have a snake? Your snake will not become a vegetarian, unlike people, it's immune to propaganda.
been there, ejackson, and mogwai... you guys are hillarious.
I get this question at work all too often and it's going to be hard not to laugh now when I hear it.
fireside- you're 100% right as usual.

Now, if you do decide that you're going to keep your snake anyway, remember, everyone has said frozen, but no one has mentioned ~~THAWED~~. Soak the frozen mouse in lukewarm water until it's room temperature through and through... and if it's your snake's first time eating frozen/thawed rodents, get a pair of forceps, and try to remember that old Far Side comic panel by Gary Larson... "Johnny, jiggle grampa's rat so it looks alive." Snakes at dinner... Watch your hands. (some snakes do not need to be tricked into thinking their dead food is alive, but a lot of snakes get the initial strike response from movement.)

Reptile and Amphibian Mythunderstandings
No snake is a vegetarian, nor do any snakes eat vegetation. All snakes are carnivores with diets, depending on species, ranging from arthropods, other invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, or mammals. Some snake species are cannibalistic and will eat other snakes, including members of their own species.

You cannot make a snake vegetarian, The guy who gave you instructions on how, was being sarcastic. (if you note his reference you will figure out why I know this.) Snakes are naturally carnivorous even if you did sub their diet somehow, their digestive systems couldn't handle it.
Itskatyo- The note at petco "we do not feed live food" is not saying that they feed vegetables.. it means just that We don't fee LIVE food" It's frozen, you can buy it there. frozen pinkies, fuzzies full sized mice rat pups and large rats.

If you were to go to Petco right now, and read the little disclaimer at the bottom of the snake's cage, you'd see that it says specifically they DON'T feed their snakes live animals. I'm not sure exactly what they do eat, but it's on the label. Ask a vet how to convert your snake from eating mice/rats into eating the non-living.
**ATTN LOSERS**
If any of you lame dense jerks would have actaully READ my post they'd know I DIDNT SAY you could feed it carrots or such. I DIDNT say that you could stray from feeding it meat. I DID HOWEVER say that you did'nt have to feed it a live animal.
SOME PEOPLE WOULD RATHER FEED THEIR SNAKE SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY DEAD, than to actually buy a live animal and feed it that.
FREAKING seriously.
*learn* to read before you try and prove me wrong.
