I am going to Paris and I am going to a dance club one night. Which dances will they probably have? Salsa, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot?

Hi! Mostly Salsa. I don't know about the rest but maybe yes maybe not... They'll certainly play merengue, bachata and raggaeton too. What you'll find for sure: Casino and casino rueda. They're big fans of cuban style salsa.

We were in Paris in March and found a lot of really good Argentine tango dancing. [Note that there is a distinction between Argentine tango and ballroom tango.] There is a tango calendar which is posted on the Internet. It lists lessons available, regular milongas (bals du tango) and practicas (les practiques), and other tango events. Click here: http://tangoparis.free.fr/cal_e.php

We went dancing four of the five nights we were in Paris. All of the tango locations we attended were near public transportation (the métro stations for tango locations are listed).

During the summer months, there are tango dances on the quais along the River Seine. People who take the Bateaux Mouches cruises remark about seeing them.

I was surprised to see dancers in Paris smiling while dancing. My wife and I have danced internationally for years, and we usually find Argentine tango dancers to be very intensely involved with both their dance partners and the music. All of the dancing we saw was "milonguero" (close-embrace) tango. Dancing Argentine tango in Paris was an enjoyable experience for us. The French people we met on the dance floor contributed to the positive experience.
