AG Gonsalves was being "as honest as he could be" while testifying to Congress.
Isn't honesty under oath an either/or question?
And in light of 74 lapses of memory, isn't being as honest as you can be perjurious or admission of wrongdoing?

Lapses of memory or qualified statements are part and parcel of modern politics.

"I did not have sexual relations with that women...my cigar did...he he he"

"We have been given evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. Of course we gave the evidence to the people who then gave it back to us, but we trust them to tell us the truth, well at the very least, tell what we want to hear which is better than the truth"

"Read my lips, no new taxes.....until after the election"

"We are winning the war in Iraq....we are killings lots of Iraqis, so we must be winning, ok lots of them are innocent women and children....and pretty much most of Iraq is a no-go zone, but it depends on your definition of winning"

"We believe all men are created equal....except for those ******...not they aren't created equal...but damn it...we need someone to do our laundry".

You get the picture?

What about the wrong doing when Prez. "Drop Trou" removed 93 Fed. attorneys when he first took office in 1993? It depends on what the meaning of the word "IS" is, I guess. And how many "I don't recall, I don't remember, I can't say, I couldn't have...." did he claim all his admin.? Billy committed perjured himself,f in a court of law, under oath, and walked away. It's All politics, so let's be honest with each other, OK?

I believe you read to much into the President's comments. And, lapses of memory are common while under oath. I am a trial lawyer and I see them all the time. Not convenient ones, but lapses due to the pressure. Gonzales was in a pressure cooker and the number of supposed "lapses" you claim has no bearing on his veracity.

Since Bush wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up and bit him in the @ss how does he know if Gonzo is being truthful at all. All the main Bushies are liars. Gonzalez is no different. Most people who have 74 lapses of memory in the same period of time would be diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Ah, but the trick here is: how can you prove that a guy actually did recall something when he says he didn't?

Gonzales is stuck between a rock and a hard place: doesn't want to tell the truth and get fired, doesn't want to lie and get a perjury rap, so he's just going to "forget" everything that happened. Convenient.

I would think if anything he should be charged with obstruction of justice. He obviously is lying but trying to beat that rap by the I don't recall statements.I wonder if he realizes just how inept he made himself look.Even Republicans have to question someone who doesn't know what is going on in his Department.

Aren't you jumping on this bandwagon a little late. Presidents throughout our history have fired U.S. Attorneys for political reasons, and their subordinates have backed them. It just so happens that at this moment, the Democrats have nothing to brag about, so they are slamming the opposition. The Republicans do the same thing. This is not an issue separated by party lines. You are beating a dead horse.

If he can't be totally honest then there is a big problem. How
much of the truth can we assume he is telling? And with all
of those memory lapses don't you think he may be getting
Alzheimer's?? It's time for him to go.

It will be interesting to find out just what Gonzales has on Bush to command such unwavering support. Gonzales has no integrity and has sunk his own ship as far as his testimony is concerned. I hope his days are numbered.
